Grant Morrison has made his career out of using the DC Universe as raw materials for occult working. SEVEN SOLDIERS is my favorite of his weird post-modern projects in this vein: it’s sprawling and nakedly commercial and recklessly ambitious, and the fact that it is made of weird rags and tatters of DC history means Morrison has plenty of room to move. As a project it has a lot in common with Kirby’s NEW GODS, including in its flaws. It’s a strange, gigantic goofball magical labyrinth and I love it.
