Roger Ebert, a Movie Critic who Liked Movies

The link is to a three star review of “Gamera, Guardian of the Universe”, which Ebert opens by acknowledging that he’s rating it higher than “Air Force One”. This fits with Ebert’s theory of criticism: Ebert was very good at evaluating a movie in terms of its own project. Ebert determined what the movie was trying to do and then described how well it did that thing.

Many, many of his reviews are still available online at rogerebert.com, and a documentary about him made shortly before his death, “Life Itself” is available on Amazon Prime.
